Vol. 366 No. 6

Written Answers - Provision of Hospital Laser Equipment.

52.

asked the Minister for Health if there is any laser equipment for the treatment of eye disease available in health board areas similar to that which is being campaigned for in the South Eastern Health Board area; and if this equipment is not available in the Southern Health Board area, if there are any plans to provide it.

The laser equipment being campaigned for in the South Eastern Health Board area is available in one hospital in the Eastern Health Board area. My Department has received a proposal from the Cork Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital for the purchase of this equipment. This proposal is being considered in the context of setting up a regional ophthalmic service in Cork Regional Hospital and in the light of the priority equipment requirements in the Southern Health Board area.
