Vol. 367 No. 2

Written Answers. - Glencullen (Dublin) Water Supply.

30.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of reports of defects in the water supply system in Glencullen, County Dublin; and if he will order an immediate investigation of the matter in order to reassure residents as to the safety of the system.

41.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of serious water contamination in the Glencullen area of County Dublin; if he will order an immediate inspection by the health authorities; if he will publish the results of such an inspection; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 30 and 41 together.

I am assured by Dublin County Council as the responsible sanitary authority that the water supply is wholesome and fit for human consumption. The county council's assurance is based on the results of the analysis by their own laboratory and three other laboratories of sampling carried out following recent complaints. While the water has been found to be wholesome and fit for consumption I have asked the local authority to carry out an examination of the water supply system, including the source, with a view to eliminating as far as practicable any cause for further complaint.
