Vol. 367 No. 2

Written Answers. - Disabled Drivers.

65.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details of the concessions and cost reductions available to disabled drivers in motoring costs; and if he will also give details of the disabilities that qualify for such concessions.

The following concessions in respect of motoring costs are available to disabled drivers: value-added tax and excise duty are refunded on new motor vehicles specially constructed or adapted for their use; and excise duty is refunded on up to 600 gallons of petrol a year used by them in their motor vehicles.

The disabilities which qualify a person for eligiability for these concessions are those specified in section 43 (1) of the Finance Act, 1968. There are also concessions available through the Departments of Health and the Environment.
