Vol. 367 No. 2

Written Answers. - Rosslare (Wexford) Coast Protection.

67.

asked the Minister for Finance the amount of money being allocated for costal protection at Rosslare in 1986; the amount of money which will be paid to those involved in coast protection at Rosslare in 1986; if it is intended to commence the long term programme of coastal protection for Rosslare this year; if it is intended to provide beach nourishment on the strand this year; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The amount of money allocated for maintenance of the coast protection works at Rosslare Strand in 1986 is £138,000 of which approximately £60,000 represents the cost of the workforce employed there by the Commissioners of Public Works. Beach nourishment has been provided this year by CIE.

Having regard to the stage which the proposals for a new coast protection scheme at Rosslare Strand have reached and to the further statutory steps which must be completed under the Coast Protection Act, 1963, it will not be possible to reach this year the works stage of a new scheme.
