Vol. 367 No. 3

Written Answers. - Meath Estate.

43.

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry if he will give a full report on the Hodgins Estate, The Wood, Kildalkey, Navan, County Meath, under the Clonmellon Forestry Development, where up to 100 acres of land were planted; if the tenants with turbary rights were consulted in advance about the matter; and if any compensation was offered to them.

An area of 243 acres of the Hodgins Estate was purchased by my Department in 1969 from the Land Commission subject to the reservation of turbary rights on 54 acres to the Land Commission for the use of tenants of the former Hodgins Estate. As this area of 54 acres is left unplanted by my Department there is no question of payment of compensation to turbary tenants.
