Friday, 30 May 1986

Vol. 367 No. 4

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take No. 27.

By agreement, the proceedings on Vote 41 shall be brought to a conclusion not later than 1.30 p.m. today and the Minister for Labour shall be called on to conclude not later than 1.15 p.m. today.

Also by agreement, the proceedings on Votes 46 and 47 shall be brought to a conclusion not later than 4 p.m. today and the Minister for Foreign Affairs shall be called on to conclude not later than 3.45 p.m. today.

Also by agreement, if a division is challenged on any Estimates today, the taking of such division shall be postponed until 8.30 p.m. on Wednesday, 4 June 1986.

Also by agreement, at the conclusion of business today, the Dáil shall adjourn until 10.30 a.m. on Wednesday, 4 June 1986.

Are the arrangements for taking today's business agreed?

Is it also agreed that on rising today the Dáil shall adjourn until 10.30 a.m. on Wednesday, 4 June?

May I congratulate the Taoiseach on a very commendable initiative he took with regard to Bewleys?

Neither complimentary nor derogatory remarks are in order at this time.

May I be permitted to demur because it showed a rather peculiar sense of priorities?

I do not follow Deputy Haughey.

The Government might be more concerned with the factories that are closing down.

I am, but I am trying to be objective. Deputy Haughey never developed that capacity.

On the Order of Business, I would like to refer to a statement made by the Minister of State yesterday in relation to broadcasting and to take this opportunity to totally reject the allegations——

That does not arise on the Order of Business.

Fianna Fáil have always been in favour of broadcasting.

Who are you fooling?

(Interruptions.)

I am calling item No. 27.

Jobs for Germany.

Fianna Fáil are afraid of broadcasting.

I want to make it quite clear that the hold up has been due to the fumbling of the Minister Deputy Barrett——

(Interruptions.)

This is disorderly. I am calling Deputy Keating.

Jobs for Germany, no jobs for Ireland. That is the Government's concern.

(Interruptions.)

May I ask the Taoiseach if the Second Stage debate on the Local Radio Bill, 1985, will be resumed this session?

It is my intention that it should be and I hope it will be.
