asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the progress which has been made to secure replacement industries for County Mayo to compensate for the job losses in the county over the past three years.

Limerick East): Significant progress has been made by the IDA in securing replacement industries for County Mayo to compensate for the job losses in the county over the past three years.

In 1984, 21 small industry projects in County Mayo were approved grant assistance by the IDA and are expected to provide 143 jobs at full production. In 1985, the IDA approved grant assistance for 17 small industry projects for County Mayo with an employment potential of 111 jobs. So far this year, the IDA has approved grant assistance for 17 small industry projects in the county with an employment potential of 115 jobs. A number of Mayo based companies were also approved grant assistance towards expansion programmes in 1985 and significant additional employment is emerging as a result of these programmes. In addition, during 1985 the IDA has taken 25 promoters to view industrial sites and factories in County Mayo. A further seven promoters have visited the County to date in 1986.

The IDA will continue to actively promote County Mayo as a location for industrial investment.
