Vol. 367 No. 8

Written Answers. - Cork Polio and Aftercare Association Allocation.

103.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware of the serious problem being created for parents of children who are mentally handicapped and difficult because of the cutback of a half million pounds in the money being made available to Cork Polio and Aftercare Association, that an impossible situation has been created for many families who are not able to care for these children and many of them have no transport which is causing further problems and expense on people who have little means; if he will re-examine the position in a humane and caring way; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The allocation to Cork Polio and General Aftercare Association for 1986 is £4,295,000.

Officals of my Department met recently with representatives of Cork Polio and General Aftercare Association during which the association's representatives outlined the measures which they consider necessary to assist them in living within their current allocation. My Department is waiting for more detailed information on these measures which are designed to have minimum impact on services. On receipt of this information, I will consider the situation as sympathetically as possible in the light of the available resources.
