Vol. 367 No. 9

Written Answers. - Mayo Industrial Development.

36.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the ever increasing number of people unemployed in the Ballina and North Mayo area; if he is aware of the number of business premises that have closed in Ballina; and the steps he proposes to take to remedy this very serious situation.

37.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the steps he is taking to find industries and industrial jobs for the advance factories in Ballina and Foxford.

Limerick East): I propose to take Questions Nos. 36 and 37 together.

I am aware of the employment needs of Ballina and the North County Mayo area generally. In so far as industrial development measures to alleviate the unemployment situation are concerned, I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that it is actively promoting the advance factories and small industry units in Ballina and the advance factory in Foxford for suitable industrial projects. In addition, the Authority is actively promoting the county as a whole for new industrial projects.
