Vol. 368 No. 1

Written Answers. - Rockall Jurisdication.

78.

Mr. Coughlan

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry if he will investigate the allegation that Irish fishing vessels are being debarred from fishing in the area off Rockall which seems to be accessible to Spanish trawlers, and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I wish to assure the Deputy that Irish fishing vessels are not prohibited from fishing in the area around Rockall. The Government does not accept the UK claim to jurisdiction over the area in question.
