Vol. 368 No. 2

Written Answers. - Wealth Tax Receipts.

asked the Minister for Finance the total amount of revenue raised under the Wealth Tax Act, 1975; the total estimated amount that would be raised if the Wealth Tax Act was applied to the current year; if the Government has any plans to reintroduce a wealth tax; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Total receipts under the Wealth Tax Act, 1975, up to 31 December 1985, amounted to £20,536,081. The estimated full year yield from the re-introduction of wealth tax would be of the order of £10 million. There are no plans at present for the re-introduction of wealth tax.
