Vol. 368 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tralee General Hospital.

16.

asked the Minister for Health if he will consider making available 50 beds for geriatric patients in the new General Hospital, Tralee; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

To ensure an orderly development of services at the new General Hospital, Tralee, it was decided that the beds would be commissioned on a phased basis. To date, 289 beds have been commissioned and I have asked the Southern Health Board to make immediate arrangements to open the acute psychiatric unit. There are no proposals from the health board for the commissioning of the remaining unopened beds which include a geriatric assessment unit.
