My proposals for the rationalisation of the health research bodies, which have now been approved by the Government, do not provide for bringing the Medical Research Council directly under the control of the Department of Health. I will make an announcement about the future organisation of health research, including the position of the Medical Research Council, as soon as consultations with the council have been completed.
