Vol. 368 No. 3

Written Answers. - Western Health Board Funding.

29.

asked the Minister for Health the final arrangements which have been reached with the Western Health Board concerning the adequate funding for medical services for 1986; and if he will state that the recommendations made in this regard by the Western Health Board are satisfactory and acceptable to him.

The Deputy is aware of the allocation approved for the health board for 1986 and the associated proposals designed to rationalise certain services in the area which, when agreed, will result in some extra funds being provided for the health board to facilitate the implementation of the agreed measures.

As regards the measures being implemented by the health board to reduce expenditure, my only concern is that they may not be sufficient to contain expenditure within the approved allocation level. Apart from the extra funds mentioned above in relation to the rationalisation arrangements there are no funds at my disposal which would enable me to increase the board's non-capital allocation for 1986.
