Vol. 368 No. 5

Written Answers. - Maternity Committees.

134.

asked the Minister for Health the current position in relation to the establishment of maternity committees as envisaged in The Maternity and Infant Care Review.

The establishment of maternity commitees on a pilot basis is currently under consideration.

As you are aware, the public health nurse has a major caring and advisory role to play in the ante and post natal periods. Before a final decision as to the committees' terms of reference and composition can be made it is considered appropriate to await the outcome of the review of public health nursing which will, inter alia, address itself to the problem of linking community and institutional nursing services.
