asked the Minister for Agriculture the amount per head which will be paid on the suckler scheme for 1986; and if there will be a limit to the number of cattle being paid under the suckler scheme for 1986 in the disadvantaged areas.

Under the 1986 EC suckler cow premium scheme, £27.04 will be paid on each eligible suckler cow and there will be no limit on the number of eligible cows on which grants can be paid to any particular applicant inside or outside the disadvantaged areas.

Under the 1986 cattle and equines headage scheme in the more severely handicapped areas, £70 will in addition be paid on each of the first eight beef cows and £66 on each of the next 22 subject to an overall limit of 30 livestock units.

Under the 1986 beef cow scheme in the less severely handicapped areas, £70 will be paid in addition on each of the first eight beef cows and £66 on each of the next 20 subject to an overall limit of 28 cows.
