Vol. 368 No. 5

Written Answers. - Employment Incentive Scheme.

214.

asked the Minister for Labour the amount of money which was allocated each year to the employment incentive scheme for job creation in Dublin's inner city since the inception of the scheme; and the amount which was actually spent each year.

There are no budget allocations for particular regions or districts under the employment incentive scheme. The practice of successive Governments has generally been to provide whatever funds are necessary at the level of the State to operate the scheme on the basis of projected take-up by employers.

Statistics of participation are kept on a regional basis. The Dublin region which embraces counties Wicklow, Kildare, Meath and Dublin, including the Dublin inner city area, accounts for approximately 40 per cent of recruitment take-up under the scheme. In 1985 notified recruitments amounted to over 7,500 with approximately 3,000 recruitments in the Dublin region.

Statistics are not kept on a sub-regional basis.
