Vol. 368 No. 6

Written Answers. - Irish Food Centre.

27.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he has any plans for the establishment of an Irish food centre to promote quality Irish food; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

State assistance towards the promotion and marketing of food is provided by Córas Beostoic agus Feola in respect of the cattle and sheep sectors, Bord Iascaigh Mhara in respect of the fish sector and Córas Tráchtála for all other sectors. These bodies provide market information and research, incentive grants, access to overseas offices and assistance in promotional activities, such as international food fairs and exhibitions.

In addition, the recently established Permanent Food Committee, which includes representatives of the various agencies involved in food promotion, is examining ways and means of stimulating expansion and diversification in the food industry, including the question of whether existing arrangements for the promotion of Irish food products are adequate.
