Vol. 368 No. 6

Written Answers. - Cahir (Tipperary) By-Pass.

52.

asked the Minister for the Environment the total cost of land acquisitioned for the Cahir by-pass, the numbers of acres required and the landowners involved; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Tipperary (South Riding) County Council Compulsory Purchase No. (1) Order, 1983, provided for the acquisition of all the lands required for the Cahir by-pass. The order was confirmed on 24 December 1984 with minor modifications. The order, as confirmed, authorised the local authority to acquire 24.208 hectares of land. Details of the owners or reputed owners of the land and of the amounts of land involved in the order, as confirmed, are set out in the following schedule.

Details of the total cost of lands acquired for the by-pass will only become available following completion of the acquisitions. The amount of compensation in any individual case is a matter for settlement between the local authority and the owner either by agreement or, failing agreement, by the property arbitrator under the statutory provisions governing payment of compensation. I understand that, to date, the local authority has not completed any land acquisitions in relation to this scheme.
