Vol. 368 No. 6

Written Answers. - Ballydavid (Kerry) School.

79.

asked the Minister for Education the reason for the undue delay in providing a new national school at Muirioch, Ballydavid, County Kerry, in view of the deplorable condition of the existing school.

It was originally agreed in principle to extend Smerwick national school, Muirioch, Ballydavid, County Kerry, by one classroom. However, on the recommendations of the Commissioners of Public Works it was subsequently agreed that a replacement school would be built rather than an extension of the existing one.

As a special concession, it was agreed that an extra classroom should be grant aided. This proposal was subsequently amended to substitute a small general purposes room for the extra classroom. The negotiation of these arrangements took some time to complete and were concluded in January last.

A sketch scheme for the proposed new school is now being prepared by the Department's Professional staff. It is hoped that the sketch scheme will be completed by the end of July 1986.
