asked the Minister for Labour the number of schemes which are approved in 1986 in each county council and corporation area throughout the country under the Social Employment Schemes and if he will give the value of these schemes and the cost in total to the Exchequer.
Written Answers. - Social Employment Schemes.
Statistics on the Social Employment Scheme (SES) are compiled on the basis of National Manpower Service (NMS) regions. An NMS regional breakdown of local authority projects approved during 1986 is contained in a tabular statement which I will have circulated in the Official Report. Details on an individual county basis will be readily available when the records of the scheme are fully computerised.
A total of 154 projects sponsored by local authorities has been approved by my Department to date in 1986. These projects have an employment potential of 1,743 jobs. Grant aid totalling £9.71 million has been allocated from SES funding to cover the cost of operating these projects.
