asked the Minister for Social Welfare (a) the number of cases where the classes of social insurance contributions recorded by individuals are mixed; (b) the number of persons in occupational pension schemes in the public sector with less than full service; (c) the number of persons in occupational pension schemes in the public sector with earnings which would result in pensions less than the rate of the old age contributory pension; and (d) the estimated cost of paying a pro-rata pension, based on a person's class A contributions, to the total number of persons referred to in (a) who failed to qualify for a pension.

The following table gives details as at January 1986 of the number of cases where the classes of social insurance contributions recorded by individuals are mixed for the contribution years 1983-84 and 1984-85.

It should be noted that while the figures for 1983-84 are reasonably firm at this stage those for 1984-85 are subject to revision.
The remaining information requested by the Deputy is not readily available. The issue of persons in the public sector with mixed social insurance records was examined by the Commission on Social Welfare who considered that "the numbers involved would not be very great".
