Vol. 369 No. 1

Written Answers. - Separate Appeals System.

373.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare her views on the establishment of a separate appeals system, independent of her Department, to which applicants might have recource.

The Commission on Social Welfare recommended the establishment of an appeals office as a separate executive office of the Department. The commission also made recommendations about the provision of more information to claimants in connection with decisions and appeals. The implications of the approach recommended by the commission in this regard are at present being examined and proposals will be put to the Government in due course.
