It was estimated in Planning for the Future that the total capital requirement to implement the report's recommendations could be in the region of £50 million spread over a period of ten to 15 years. The greater part of this related to the provision of acute treatment units in or associated with general hospitals. Health boards are now in the process of developing their plans and identifying their priorities for community based services. Already some boards are implementing these community care proposals.
