Vol. 369 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Employment Scheme.

212.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will respond sympathetically to the requests of a company (details supplied) in Dublin; and if he will outline the way in which he, or any of his Government colleagues, are able to help this organisation.

The organisation in question received grant aid totalling £23,839 in 1985 under my Department's teamwork scheme. This funding enabled it to employ 11 workers for a period of 18 weeks. Following my Department's agreement to extend the period of grant aid for the project, seven of these workers were employed for a further six weeks after the initial period had expired.

In August 1985 a project under my Department's social employment scheme sponsored by the organisation commenced operation. Employment for 18 persons for a period of one year was provided and £35,600 in grant aid was paid in respect of this project.

A further project sponsored by the organisation under the social employment scheme commenced operation in August 1986 with a workforce of eight persons. To date £11,067 has been issued by my Department in respect of this project.
