Vol. 369 No. 7

Written Answers. - Unemployment Assistance.

49.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in processing the application of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny for unemployment assistance as the application was made some three months ago.

The person concerned claimed unemployment assistance from 8 September 1986. Following investigation, his claim was disallowed by a deciding officer on 23 October 1986 on the grounds that, by failing to furnish details of his means, he failed to show that his means did not exceed the statutory limits.

If the person concerned is dissatisfied with the decision, it is open to him to appeal and to have his case determined by an appeals officer. A form for this purpose may be obtained from his local office.

50.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if unemployment assistance can be reinstated urgently to a person (details supplied) in County Dublin having regard to the fact that this person is destitute and has no other means of subsistance whatsoever for himself and his family and is and was at all times available for work.

The person concerned was in receipt of unemployment assistance at the maximum appropriate rate until 14 October 1986 when a doubt arose as to whether he continued to satisfy the condition of being unemployed. Payment was suspended from 15 October 1986 pending investigation.

His case has been referred to a social welfare officer for investigation and his entitlement to unemployment assistance will be determined in the light of the outcome of these investigations. It is understood that the person concerned is at present in receipt of supplementary welfare allowance from the health board.
