Vol. 369 No. 9

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Building Material Imports.

2.

asked the Taoiseach if he will give details of the amount of finished copper piping products imported in 1985 and 1986; and their country of origin.

, Dún Laoghaire): I will circulate a statement giving the available data for the year 1985 and the period January to August 1986 (the latest period for which such data is available).

Following is the statement:

Does the statement include countries outside the EC and, if so, what are those countries?

I would prefer that the Deputy did not ask that. We had a very long discussion about this and eventually I got the House to accept that there would not be supplementary questions on circulated statements.

asked the Taoiseach the total value of building material imported during each of the years ended 30 June 1984, 30 June 1985 and 30 June 1986; and if he will give a broad description of the materials involved, including price, in each case.

(Dún Laoghaire): The most appropriate analysis of imports relevant to building and construction work is that carried out by An Foras Forbarta using the official import statistics. This analysis is prepared only on a calendar year basis. The figures for 1982 to 1984 calendar years are £369.7 million, £365.6 million and £411.4 million respectively. I understand that a 1985 publication will be available shortly.

I propose to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the figures for the product groups involved.
