Vol. 369 No. 10

Written Answers. - Boarding School Grants.

55.

asked the Minister for Education the reason senior cycle boarding school grants have been stopped for students coming from the Aran Islands in view of the fact that the full range of subjects obtainable at secondary schools are not available in the schools located on the island.

My Department are satisfied that the second level school on Inis Mór, Aran Islands provides an adequate range of subjects at senior cycle level. Accordingly it was decided that, with effect from the beginning of the 1986-87 school year, boarding grants would not be sanctioned in respect of new applicants from Inis Mór. Pupils in receipt of such grants will retain them until their courses are completed. The position in regard to pupils from the other two islands remains unchanged.
