The opening of the geriatric assessment unit at Ardkeen Hospital, Waterford, is a matter for the South Eastern Health Board in the first instance. A request from the board for additional funds for that purpose is being considered in my Department in the context of the closure of St. Dympna's Psychiatric Hospital in Carlow, which is currently being discussed between the board and my Department.
