asked the Minister for Education if he will give details of financial allocations to Youth Affairs in the 1986 Capital Programme and of all allocation to Youth Affairs announced since then; if he will also give details of expenditure of those allocations to date and proposed expenditure to the end of the year; and if there has been any decision to reduce expenditure already announced since the publication of the Capital Programme.
Written Answers. - Youth Affairs Allocation.
Under the Public Capital Programme a sum of £1.2 million was provided for the capital grant scheme for recreational facilities which is operated by the youth affairs section of my Department. There has been no decision to reduce this amount. On the contrary this sum was increased to £1.313 million to provide for anticipated expenditure on a number of projects include in the west Cork development package to be administered through my Department's scheme. Furthermore, due to the fact that the majority of the funding provided was in respect of commitments from previous years the global provision for the scheme was increased by £0.5 million to allow for new grants to be allocated to projects in 1986.
The total of new grants allocated to projects in 1986 amounts to £798,500. With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate in the Official Report a schedule of allocations during the current year.
Payments of grants under the scheme which are made in instalments on foot of certification of work done amounted to £0.828 million at the end of October. It is estimated that the total expenditure under the scheme will be in the region of £1.1 million for the year.
