Vol. 370 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport Insurance.

38.

asked the Minister for Education the insurance pupils in primary schools have when they leave school grounds to board school buses directly outside the school grounds.

I have been advised that, where the operation of a school Transport service according to time-table involves childern being brought to school in the morning before normal time of commencement of school business, or childern waiting at school in the afternoon after conclusion of a school business, the board of management may be held liable in the event of accident to pupils during the period intervening.

Boards of management are recommended, therefore, to ensure that the insurance taken out by them in respect of accidents will cover such eventualities.
