Vol. 370 No. 1

Written Answers. - National School for Frenchpark, County Roscommon.

43.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the provision of a new national school in Frenchpark, County Roscommon; when work will commence on this project; and the reason for the delay in providing this school.

The preparation of tender documentation for the proposed new national school at Frenchpark. County Roscommon, is in the hands of consultants in private practice who have been engaged by the school authorities. When these documents have been submitted and found to be satisfactory, the question of invitation of tenders will arise for consideration subject to a review of the accommodation to be provided. This review is necessary as there has been a recent decline in numbers attending the school.

A decision as to when tenders may be invited for the project must also await the determination of the 1987 capital allocation to my Department for national schools building. I am not, therefore, in a position to say when building works may commence.

Any delay in this case was mainly due to the fact that changes in the planning approach proved necessary. It was originally through that to extend the existing school was an appropriate option, but this course was ruled out because of the poor condition of the existing building and on grounds of cost.
