26.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he reviews, on a regular basis, in each year the operations of the IDA and CTT; if he regularly sets them targets to achieve in keeping with the public need; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Limerick East): The activities of both the Industrial Development Authority and Córas Tráchtála are kept under regular review in my Department. In each case specific targets are set annually having regard to the objectives set out in the White Paper on Industrial Policy published in 1984 and procedures are in place to ensure regular reporting and assessment of results.

In addition, at the present time, the first of the triennial reviews of industrial performance, as required under section 6 of the Industrial Development Act, 1986, is being undertaken. The review will cover the activities of these bodies and others engaged in industrial development activities and the review with its conclusions will be laid before each House of the Oireachtas.
