Vol. 370 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Galway School Extension.

212.

asked the Minister for Education when a decision will be made regarding a school (details supplied) in County Galway; if he will now direct that this school extension proceed immediately; if he will make a statement on the exact position, and the total area of the extension to be built, the amount of money that will be allocated for this and when he expects work to commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department has agreed to grant-aid the erection of an extension to the school in County Galway referred to by the Deputy. The project also includes the adaptation of the existing school building. The eventual overall provision will be four classrooms, a general purposes room and the usual ancillary accommodation. The area of new accommodation to be provided is 360 square metres.

The preparation of tender documentation for this project is in hands and will be completed as quickly as possible. The question of inviting tenders will then arise for consideration and a decision will be conveyed to the school authorities as soon as circumstances permit. I am not in a position at this stage to say when building work will commence. As to the amount of money which will be allocated for the project, information as to costs in the case of individual school building projects which are to be grant-aided is regarded as confidential, and it is not my Department's practice to disclose it.
