Vol. 370 No. 11

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

42.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason a house improvement grant has been refused to a person (details supplied) in Dublin 24.

The application was among those covered by the special dispensation from prior inspection announced last February. Such applicants were specifically advised in writing at the time that old windows and doors would have to be retained for examination by the Department's inspector and that otherwise a grant would not be paid. As the windows in this case were not retained for inspection, payment of a grant cannot be made.

43.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a house improvement grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal.

A final inspection with a view to payment of the grant will be carried out within the next few weeks.

44.

asked the Minister for the Environment when a house improvement grant will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Donegal.

Payment of the grant will be made within the next few weeks.

45.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason the amount of grant indicated in earlier correspondence was reduced in the cheque actually paid to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

A grant for house improvements cannot in any case exceed two-thirds of the approved cost as estimated by the Department's inspector, or of the cost of carrying out the work, whichever is the lesser. The actual costs of the works done in this case as notified by the applicant were less than the approved cost and the amount of the grant paid was adjusted accordingly to take account of this.

46.

asked the Minister for the Environment (a) the number of house improvement grant applications he has received from the Cork North-Central constituency since the instigation of the house improvement grant scheme; (b) the number of grant approvals in the same constituency; and (c) the number of grants paid to date in the same constituency.

Statistics of applications for house improvement grants are compiled on a county basis only. The information requested by the Deputy in relation to County Cork as a whole is as follows: 16,209 applications had been received by 5 December 1986; about 11,000 applications have been approved by end November 1986, including cases covered by the special dispensation from prior inspection and about 2,000 grants had been paid by end November.
