Vol. 371 No. 3

Written Answers. - Service Medals Award.

36.

asked the Minister for Defence the reason a person (details supplied) in Dublin 9 was turned down for the award of service medals for the period 1917 to 1921 despite evidence furnished on his behalf.

Limerick West): The Service (1917-1921) Medal is awarded in respect of continuous membership of Oglaigh na hÉireann (IRA) or kindred organisations during the three months immediately preceding the Truce of 11 July 1921.

The application by the person mentioned was processed in accordance with approved procedure but on the evidence available it was not possible to establish his claim to continuous membership of one of the prescribed organisations during the period in question. The evidence provided by the verifying officers mentioned by the Deputy was taken into consideration in the examination of the case.
