I propose to take Questions Nos. 169, 170 and 171 together.
The information requested by the Deputy is as follows:—
House Improvement Grants
In total 138,632 applications were received up to and including 31 March 1987. Approvals will issue in the normal way to all applicants who had inspections on or before 27 March 1987, where the proposed works were found to be eligible. The total number of applications affected by the termination of the scheme is estimated at 4,500 of which 732 are applications received in the Department on 30 and 31 March 1987.
£2,250 New House Grants
The total number of applications received up to 31 March 1987, is 3,517 of which 392 applications were received on 30 March and 31 March 1987. The number of applications not approved is 3,237. These cases will be individually assessed to determine whether or not they are now eligible for the grant.
£5,000 Surrender Grants
The handling of applications for the £5,000 surrender grant scheme is a matter for the appropriate local authority up to the stage of certification for payment. On the basis of the most recent information received from local authorities, 9,770 applications were received by the end of February 1987, of which 2,473 had not been approved at that date. These cases will be individually assessed to determine whether they are now eligible for the grant. The other information sought in respect of this scheme is not availabe in my Department.
