Vol. 371 No. 8

Written Answers. - Helvick Harbour (Waterford) Development.

122.

asked the Minister for the Marine if the costed plans for the development of Helvick harbour, County Waterford submitted by the local fishing co-operative Meitheal Mara na Rinne have been examined; and when work will commence on the harbour development to eliminate the hardship at present caused to fishermen who have to wait hours to leave and enter the harbour.

The plans for the development of Helvick harbour submitted by Comharchumann Mheitheal Mara na Rinne are being examined by my Department in conjunction with similar plans already received from the Office of Public Works.

It has been agreed that the urgent need at Helvick is the provision of adequate flotation. To this end approval has been given for a grant to cover the cost of a boring survey, on which work is expected to commence shortly, so as to ascertain the extent of dredging required at the harbour bar and berthage area.
