Vol. 371 No. 8

Written Answers. - Completion of Dublin Roadworks.

129.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding the Fonthill-Newlands Road at Clondalkin, County Dublin; if approval has been granted to this project; if the necessary funds will be authorised by his Department; and if he will make a statement on the progress of this much-needed facilty to serve the Clondalkin area.

On 3 June 1986, my Department approved in principle of the completion of the road link from New Nangor Road to Boot Road in the Clondalkin area for road grant purposes. On 3 December 1986, the local authority's outline design proposals for the scheme were approved by the Department, without prejudice to any statutory procedures which may arise. I understand that a compulsory purchase order, in respect of some of the properties necessary for this scheme, is currently being prepared by the local authority. Pending the outcome of the land acquisition procedures, the question of providing grants does not arise.

asked the Minister for the Environment when it is proposed to provide funds for the construction of the intersection of Finglas Road with Griffith Avenue, Dublin 11.

As the road in question does not form part of the network of national roads, responsibility for the planning and execution of the scheme including the timing and provision of the necessary finance rests with Dublin Corporation. The local authority may, at its discretion, use the block grant for roads paid annually by my Department to supplement any expenditure from its own resources.
