Written Answers. - Aid for Natural Gas.

90.

asked the Minister for Finance if a programme has been submitted in accordance with EC regulations to avail of aid for natural gas.

A draft programme was communicated informally to the Commission services in May 1986 and discussions have been taking place since then on the basis of that draft.

As the Deputy is no doubt aware, the Government on 26 April 1987 approved a proposal by Bord Gáis Éireann to construct a gas pipeline from Dublin to Dundalk as part of a policy of extending the national gas grid to the north and northwest. The Government intend to present the definitive project to the Commission for assistance from the non-quota section of the European Regional Development Fund.
