Vol. 372 No. 4

Written Answers. - Taxes Outstanding.

37.

asked the Minister for Finance the total amount of income tax overdue and uncollected; the percentage of (a) the subject of agreed assessment, (b) estimated assessments, and (c) the subject of appeals which were confirmed in default; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Statistics are not available which would enable the precise information requested by the Deputy to be given. In view of the wide ranging and complex inquiries involved in providing the information sought by the Deputy it is regretted that the work cannot be undertaken within the constraints imposed by the limited resources available to the Revenue Commissioners.

The latest relevant statistics as regards the level of outstanding tax are those contained in the tables in paragraph 16 of the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General on the Appropriation Accounts for 1985 which show the position at 31 May 1986. Copies of the report are available in the Library.
