Vol. 372 No. 5

Written Answers. - Connemara Sports Hall.

39.

asked the Minister for Education if she will give details of the grant application submitted by Connemara West plc on 26 January 1987, for the renovation and extension of a community owned sports hall; if she will say when a decision will be made in the matter; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

On 28 January 1987, my Department received a formal application from Connemara West plc under the capital grant scheme for the construction of recreational facilities. This application sought a grant of £78,324 from my Department towards the cost of renovating and developing an existing building into a community recreational facility.

In view of limitations on the funds available for the operation of the capital grant scheme this year and the need to accord priority to existing commitments, grants cannot be sanctioned in respect of any further projects. My Department has already issued formal notification of the position to applicant bodies, including Connemara West plc, which, it should be noted, was a relatively recent applicant under this scheme.
