Vol. 372 No. 5

Written Answers. - Local Government Audit Service.

81.

asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding the progress of the review group of the Local Government Audit Service; and whether the view of the United Kingdom Commission and the Scottish Accounts Commission are being sought as part of the review; when it is expected that the group may make a report; if such report will be published; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The inter-departmental committee is continuing its review of the Local Government Audit Service in the course of which members of the committee have had consultations regarding their operations and organisation with officials of the UK Audit Commission and the Scottish Accounts Commission. The committee are not in a position to indicate when their review will be completed and consideration of publication of any report of the committee would be premature at this stage.
