Vol. 372 No. 6

Written Answers. - St. Patrick's Institution Statistics.

50.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of offenders detained in St. Patrick's Institution for the years 1977 to 1986 inclusive; the breakdown of these detained by sex, age and postal area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The only statistical information readily available relating to St. Patrick's Institution is contained in the annual reports on prisons and places of detention which have been published for the years up to and including 1984. Statistics in relation to 1985 and 1986 are being compiled at present in preparing the annual reports for those years.

Compiling information of the kind sought by the Deputy beyond that which is contained in the annual reports (such as a breakdown by postal area) would involve an inordinate amount of staff time.
