Vol. 372 No. 6

asked the Minister for Justice the total number of unauthorised taking of motor vehicles for the years 1971 to 1986 inclusive for (a) the whole country, (b) Dublin Metropolitan Area, (c) Store Street Garda station, (d) Fitzgibbon Street Garda station.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 55 and 56 together. Records are not maintained by the Garda authorities in a manner which would enable the information sought in relation to individual Garda stations for the period in question to be provided without the commitment of a disproportionate amount of Garda time. Statistics in relation to the DMA prior to 1978 are no longer available except for those relating to the number of larcencies of motor vehicles in 1977.
The relevant available information relating to the country as whole and to the DMA is set out in the attached tabular statement.
