Vol. 372 No. 6

Written Answers. - Disadvantaged Areas.

63.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will give details of the boundaries of the disadvantaged areas in County Wicklow, and any recent adjustments made to them; the proposals, if any, he has to apply for further adjustments; and, if so, where.

Council Directive 85/350/EEC sets out the disadvantaged farming areas in Ireland including the adjustments to the boundaries following the last review completed in 1985. A copy of this Directive is available in the Dáil library.

A further review of the boundaries of the disadvantaged areas has started but in view of the large amount of organisational work and field inspections that will be required, the completion of the review will take many months. It will then be necessary to obtain EC approval for any changes. An approach has already been made to the EC Commission about the reclassification of some existing designated areas and this matter is still being pursued with the Commission.
