Vol. 372 No. 7

Written Answers. - Health Board Staffing.

245.

asked the Minister for Health if in respect of each of the health boards he will give the number of (a) administrative, (b) medical, (c) paramedical, (d) other staff employed in the year the health boards were set up, in 1976, and in 1986 respectively.

Figures are not available for 1971 when the health boards were set up. During that year, the boards were not fully staffed while staff were being transferred from the local health authorities.

Figures are not available in the form requested for 1976. The figures for 1977 and 1986 are as follows.

Notes:

(a) Administrative-Clerical figures include community welfare officers and other "front line" staff.

(c) In the Eastern Health Board area general hospital services are provided by public voluntary and joint board hospitals. The medical and nursing numbers in such hospitals do not, of course, appear in the above figures. Eastern Health Board staffing levels are not comparable with the other boards for that reason.

(d) Other staff figures include nursing, catering, housekeeping and maintenance staffs.
