Vol. 372 No. 8

Written Answers. - Repeal of Vagrancy Laws.

25.

asked the Minister for Justice if it is proposed to amend or repeal the Vagrancy Laws of 1824; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As the Deputy is no doubt aware only one section — section 4 — of the Vagrancy Act, 1824, is in force in the State. The Law Reform Commission's Report on Vagrancy and Related Offences contains recommendations in respect of the 1824 Act. Examination of that report is proceeding as quickly as other urgent demands on my Department's resources permit and any proposals I may have at a later stage in relation to the subject matter of this question will be announced in the ordinary way.
