Vol. 372 No. 13

Written Answers. - Report on Psychiatric Prisoner.

75.

asked the Minister for Justice when he last received a report on the response to treatment of a person (details supplied) in County Cork; if he is satisfied that the conditions for his detention laid down by the Court of Criminal Appeal in May 1982 are being met; when he expects the person to be released; and whether he will consider sympathetically this person's appeal for early release or parole.

I refer the Deputy to Question No. 165 of 11 March 1986 in which my predecessor indicated that due attention was being paid to the views expressed by the Court of Criminal Appeal. I am satisfied that this continues to be the position.

The offender's case is kept under regular review and was most recently discussed at a meeting at Cork prison on 24 February last attended by representatives of various disciplines within the prison.

The offender is due for release, with remission, on 25 October 1988 and, while his case will continue to be kept under review, I am not prepared at this stage to authorize any form of early release.
