asked the Minister for the Marine the harbour development allocation in this year's Estimates and the projects on which it is to be expended.

The provision in the current year's estimates is £1.7 million for fishery harbour development and £1.868 million for commercial harbours.

The main expenditure on fishery harbour development works will be the following locations: Killybegs, County Donegal; Greencastle, County Donegal; Schull, County Cork; Castletownbere, County Cork; Purteen (Achill Island), County Mayo; Derryinver, County Galway; Howth, County Dublin; Dunmore East, County Waterford; Helvic, County Waterford; Carrigaholt, County Clare.

The main expenditure on commercial harbours will be at the following: Cork; Arklow; Tralee and Fenit.

asked the Minister for the Marine the plans, if any, there are to carry out development at Inver Pier, County Donegal; the nature of the improvements envisaged; the estimated cost of same; and when it is expected work will commence.

At a recent on-site meeting of representatives of the local fishermen and my Department's engineer a scheme for harbour development for Port Pier, Inver, County Donegal was suggested.

The suggested scheme consists of: (i) relocate the stormwall to provide greater width on the causeway; (ii) raising the deck level of the outer portion of the pier to prevent flooding at high-tide and; (iii) provision of a beacon light on a rock at the entrance to the harbour.

An engineering report and estimate of cost of the scheme have been sought and until they are to hand and considered by my Department I cannot say whether and when the scheme will proceed.

I understand that meanwhile arrangements are being made locally for the removal of a gravel bank from the mooring area in the harbour.
